Presentation of the projects of the POLIMI DESIGNWEEK 2024 initiative of the AUIC School.

The School of Architecture Urban Planning Construction Engineering (AUIC) collects, unites and renews the consolidated experiences of the Faculty of Architecture born in 1934 at the Politecnico di Milano by combining the contributions of humanities and arts with those of exact sciences and techniques.

The POLIMI DESIGNWEEK 2024 project of the AUIC School, supported by AGGLOTECH, involved 36 students with master's degrees in the Architecture area and 16 lecturers/tutors.

The challenge was to give a different value and meaning to a material outcome of a cement-based mixture enriched with marble aggregates of various sizes and colours, often produced as processing waste, traditionally used to make floors.

Nine projects were developed in which the material's specific characteristics (colours, mechanical capabilities, workability, textures, surface finishes, durability, and the possibility of recycling and waste recovery) form the basis of new uses, forms, and opportunities.

The nine projects have prefigured not only innovative floor and wall coverings but also solutions for equipping public and private and intimate spaces by enhancing architectures and their livability; they have also prefigured everyday objects that can also support and incentivize more sustainable patterns of living that look positively toward a future to be built.

The projects will remain displayed throughout the week in the Agglotech space in the Small Cloister of the Church of San Marco, Milan.
