Fondazione Triulza ETS, in collaboration with and with the support of Fondazione Cariplo, is organising the first edition of the Hackathon “STEM Talents for Social Innovation: technologies to address social challenges”. The aim of the initiative is to involve the younger generation – with their talents, skills and sensitivity – in developing proposals and ideas to respond effectively and innovatively to certain current and future social needs. This is a co-design contest in which small multidisciplinary teams of university students – from three-year and master's degree courses – or ITS (Istituti Tecnici Superiori, Higher Technical Institutes) students with STEM and humanities skills will develop innovative proposals to address a specific social challenge, in response to a specific challenge that will be launched on the day of the event.

It is possible to register as an individual participant or as a multidisciplinary team. Registered teams can consist of a minimum of 2 and a maximum of 4 people.

Teams can be made up of students from any discipline, but with the aim of strengthening the specific STEM and technological aspects of the projects to be carried out, only one of the members must be a student of humanities or arts. Places are limited. The organisers will consider registrations in order of registration and may intervene in the creation or implementation of teams to ensure the participation of individual registrants and the multidisciplinary nature of the groups.

The challenge that the teams will face will be presented on the day of the Hackathon, 21st October 2025. The theme of the challenge will focus on how to support the autonomy of people with disabilities, leveraging multidisciplinary approaches and perspectives and the use of technology to address the social challenge of accessibility.

On the day of the event, 21st October, all participants will have the opportunity to interact with experts and organisations from the Third Sector who work every day to respond to social needs, to experience first-hand what it means to design for social purposes and to develop the cross-disciplinary perspective necessary to address the complexities of our time.

Awards. The projects of the top two teams will be awarded vouchers worth €1,200 (first place) and €600 (second place).

The two teams will also have the opportunity to present their projects during the opening day of the next edition of the Social Innovation Campus on 25 February 2026.

Deadline for registration: 13 October 2025
