The First International Conference on the Sustainable Conservation and Regeneration of Historic Built Environment in Urban and Rural Areas (ICSRE2025)

The sustainable conservation and regeneration of historic built environment constitute crucial elements in the construction of urban and rural living environments, and are also key drivers for advancing the high-quality development of living environments.

The First International Conference on the Sustainable Conservation and Regeneration of Historic Built Environment in Urban and Rural Areas (ICSRE2025), to be held from June 12th to 14th, 2025 at the Innovation iHarbour in Xi’an, marks the inaugural international event organized within the framework of the Sino-Italian Joint Laboratory for Sustainable Urban and Rural Heritage Conservation and Regeneration.

The Jointlab, established between Politecnico di Milano and Xi’an Jiaotong University, serves as a permanent platform for developing innovative methodologies for rehabilitating and enhancing urban and rural cultural heritage. This event will bring together international scholars engaging in thematic sessions and roundtable discussions.

The conference is chaired by Prof. Binqing Zhai (Xi’an Jiaotong University) and Prof. Ilaria Valente (Politecnico di Milano). It represents an opportunity to strengthen scientific collaborations and promote knowledge transfer between academia and institutions within the XJTU-Polimi Joint School of Design and Innovation framework. 

The Jointlab, at the core of this synergy, thus consolidates its role as a bridge between Italy and China in the field of urban and rural cultural heritage regeneration. The Politecnico di Milano team at the Jointlab involves faculty members, researchers, and doctoral candidates from the DAStU and ABC Departments. Prestigious institutions, including the Vernacular Architecture Branch of the Architectural Society of China, the UNESCO Asian Heritage Management Institute, and the Silk Road University Consortium Heritage Sub-Consortium support the initiative.
