10 YEARS OF UNESCO CHAIRS AT THE POLITECNICO DI MILANO

SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT AND CONSERVATION OF THE CULTURAL HERITAGE ARE THE FOCUS OF ACTIVITIES 

The two UNESCO Chairs established at the Politecnico di Milano, both founded in 2012, are 10 years old: "Energy for Sustainable Development" and "Architectural Preservation and Planning in Wolrld Heritage Cities" are their topics.

The Chair of ‘Energy for Sustainable Development' operates in the Department of Energy and has engaged in diverse multidisciplinary and transnational research; it collaborates with partners in developing countries, particularly in Africa, in activities of knowledge sharing and training on issues related to access to energy and sustainable energies strategies.

The chair of ‘Architectural Preservation and Planning in Wolrld Heritage Cities' is based at the Territorial Pole of Mantua and it aims to develop innovative education, research and dissemination activities in the field of architectural design for heritage cities.

Launched in 1992, the 'UNITWIN/UNESCO Chairs' Programme, involves over 850 institutions in 117 countries, 42 based in Italy. It promotes international inter-university cooperation and networking to enhance institutional capacities through knowledge sharing and collaborative work.
